Shawna-Kaye Lester helps ambitious college, graduate school, and job applicants put together applications that stand out, and win the educational and professional opportunities they need to create the life and legacy they want. As an independent admissions consultant, she has helped scores of students win millions of dollars in funding to attend some of North America’s most selective colleges and universities, including Amherst College, Columbia University, the University of Chicago, and MIT.
A Jamaica Gleaner writer between ages 14 and 18, and the country’s 2003 Prime Minister’s National Youth Awardee for Excellence in Journalism, Shawna-Kaye has created a unique and proven method of teaching individuals how to write so that they are remembered. For this reason, her admissions consulting and writing coaching practice (launched online in September 2016) is called Memorable Essay. Her workbook, How to Write a Memorable Personal Statement in 8 Steps, provides applicants self-paced access to her winning writing strategies.
Shawna-Kaye holds a B.S. in Biochemistry and Spanish from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. She also holds an M.P.H. and an M.S. in Journalism, both from Columbia University. A 2008 Jamaica Rhodes Scholar finalist, she won a 2008 Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Scholarship valued at US$300,000, which she credits for changing her life. She is committed to using education to empower individuals and communities. And her life mission is to “Enjoy a life that is free, present, and full, and enable others to do the same.”
